The photo above is taken towards the South of the road. The range head is just out of the picture to the right. Photo was in October, after all the crops were out of the fields. The tree line in the distance is approx. 1-1/2 miles south. To the North, we have approx. 2 miles of fields and no trees. The fields are mostly small crops, onions, potato and beans. There is some corn to the North of the launch site, although the crops do rotate year by year. The fields are owned by R & M Farms. We want to Thank them for letting us fly there! We need everyone to help clean-up after themselves and leave the launch site cleaner than when we got there!!
The Maple Island launch site is an old lake bottom. It is a low spot from the surrounding areas. If it has been raining, it WILL be muddy-- at least one pair of shoes were lost last year (almost with the owner still in them)! Bring boots and a change of socks, just in case.
